The problem with Atlas

it was a beautiful summer day. dusk was falling quietly devouring every tiny spec of light, slowly the stars also came into the view, there was a crescent moon on the horizon, the west wind was full of smell of fresh moon flowers. But all this beauty was not making Atlas happy, in fact they were making him incredibly sad. See, the thing was Atlas had a job, his job was to carry the world upon his shoulders, he had no time for things as trivial as enjoying a beautiful evening.

Atlas was a very bitter person, but his bitterness was not unjustified. After the war , gods had punished him by putting the weight of the world upon his shoulders, and since then Atlas had done it.The sad part was he didn't had  any choice, he had to do it. Atlas used to think of how unfair the world was to him and how he has to do it all alone, Atlas used to fantasize about inflicting all sorts of pain on people who were responsible in his spare time(he had too much of it) and Atlas used to think about running to someplace where he would not have so many responsibilities.

What Atlas didn't know that he wasn't alone. The problem with Atlas was he used to take his life too seriously, that he had forgotten long back that he wasn't real, that he was a mythological Greek creature. And he didn't know that there are far too many characters in different mythologies who do the exact same thing. There was this huge serpent in Indian  mythology who thought that he carried the world on his head, there was also a huge turtle in china who used to do the same, there were also rumors that there are four elephants who carry the world at it's four corners. But most importantly, some people from the earth have successfully proved that the world needed no carrying at all, however being a mythical creature, Atlas wasn't very open minded to all these new ideas, you see Atlas was not very bright.

Even after suffering for so long Atlas wasn't letting go of things, for the simple reason that he didn't want to. When someone originally gave him the idea of Leaving the earth be, he laughed, he thought it was funny, He used to think that without him the earth would plunge into the darkness forever, however this snake and this turtle and these elephants told him to do that, they told him that even they were making the same mistake. But now they were free.

Very reluctantly, at last, Atlas let go the world from his shoulders, and after a very long time he saw the red sunlight slowly coloring the whole world red, promising a day full of new opportunities, a day in which there would be no dead weight from the past. Atlas rose from his slumber and saw the whole world and it's beauty in it's full magnificence. And at that time Atlas learnt the lesson he would never forget again, no matter the circumstances, no matter how bad it appears, you never have to carry the world on your shoulders, you can always LET IT GO.

fortunately Atlas still learnt his lesson in time, there are a few among us who still can't . They still carry the world on their own shoulder, never realizing that it's not necessary at all.
